Borders

For these next few photos I created several borders just to try them out. I hope you enjoy.

My sister and her husband just gave birth to this beautiful girl, Lucy. She is a darling and I really liked capturing her here in this natural light from a north facing window.

Night & Light

Controlling light is an amazing thing. In these next photos I was able to take some photos at night and I tried to shape the light in a way that helps pull your focus in to a part of the frame. I think I really enjoy this type of photography.  In the past when I have captured star trails I have 30 sec. to stare at the stars, while I wait for the camera to do its thing. Its always calm and peaceful. Then after the 30 sec. are up you get a beautiful image. I hope you enjoy.

Blurred Lights

I waited until Rexburg’s rush hour (12 am) to capture this four way stop. Notice the many light streaks are actually cars moving in and out of frame. None of them actually stopped so we couldn’t see any cars but I promise they where there.

Light Sketching

Next I moved into my office and decided to spell my name for you all just to prove I graduated from Kindergarten.

Camera Motion

In the past two photos you need to set the camera up on a tripod to pull off the effect of light moving around. In the next photo you do the exact opposite you move around while the light stays in the same place. I like this photo because you can see the time clearly but the trails of light coming from it give it a cool effect.

Light Painting

For this next exercise I used the LED light on the back of my phone as a flashlight. I then shined the light on parts of the image exposing certain objects so they where highlighted.

I had a wonderful time up in Bannack Montana last week. I was able to capture some good images as well as learn ton about photography.

On this photo I really liked the models expression. She was relaxed and I feel like you can tell. I also positioned the camera so her head aligned exactly in the corner of the room behind her. The really liked the leading lines.

For this next photo I liked how natural her smile was, it warms the photo very well. I also liked how I gave enough lead room to frame her very well.

HDR images are very popular. Until this photo trip to Bannack I have not played around a lot with this feature but I am really happy I have. It has turned out great.

MACRO ABSTRACT, Bannack

Bannack is has many great little details. Here I show off some of them.

This was a rusty nail in the side of a fence protecting a grave stone. I liked the focus in this photo. I also color corrected to make it feel more old.

This photo was taken in an old house in Bannack. I liked the pealing paint as well as the green fabric that was used as a makeshift wallpaper. I bumped up the colors as well as sharpened the image well beyond what I usually do.

For this assignment I garbed my sister and wife and snagged some photos. I had fun playing around with different lighting environments. I also was going for a bit of a retro nostalgic look. They both have greenish eyes so I wanted to pump up the greens to pop their eyes but I just kept some of the other details to make it feel as if I shot it on film.
